Col. Edith Nakalema Inspires URSB Staff to Embrace Patriotism Through Dedicated Service
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) last week hosted another inspiring edition of the RG’s Fireplace, featuring Col. Edith Nakalema Asizua, Head of the State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU). Speaking on the theme “Having a Heart for Uganda: The Role of Staff in Building a Culture of Patriotism,” Col. Nakalema delivered a passionate appeal to URSB staff to serve their country with commitment, integrity, and pride.
In her presentation, Col. Nakalema invoked the famous words of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy: “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” She urged URSB employees to reflect on this message in their daily work, reminding them that patriotism begins with personal effort and dedication, which collectively drive national development.
She emphasized that true patriotism is rooted in accountability, teamwork, and alignment of personal goals with Uganda’s broader national aspirations. “Let your day-to-day service at URSB be valuable to yourself, those around you, and make you emotionally fulfilled to be a proud citizen of Uganda,” she said.
Col. Nakalema encouraged staff to see themselves not merely as workers but as patriotic servants contributing to Uganda’s social, technological, economic, and political growth. Quoting Viktor Frankl, she concluded, “The meaning of life is to give life meaning.”
The interactive session drew over 200 staff members who actively participated through questions and reflections. The engagement left participants inspired to serve beyond self-interest and to contribute meaningfully to making Uganda a preferred destination for business and investment.
