INTA Pledges Support to URSB in Strengthening Trademark Examination Capacity
Mr. Tat-Tienne Louembe, Chief Representative Officer for Europe and Intergovernmental Organizations at the International Trademark Association (INTA), has emphasized the critical role of capacity building in boosting trademark registrations and promoting innovation in Uganda.
Speaking during a training session for Intellectual Property Examiners organized by the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) in Kampala, Mr. Louembe commended URSB’s efforts to professionalize and modernize its intellectual property operations. He noted that well-trained examiners are central to ensuring the timely, accurate, and transparent processing of trademark applications, which in turn builds investor confidence and encourages business growth.
Mr. Louembe underscored that the quality of examination directly affects how local and international stakeholders perceive Uganda’s IP system. He pledged INTA’s continued collaboration with URSB through technical assistance, knowledge sharing, and training programs tailored to enhance examiners’ skills and understanding of global best practices.
He added that a strong and responsive intellectual property framework supports entrepreneurship, stimulates creativity, and drives Uganda’s economic transformation. By empowering examiners with the right skills and tools, Uganda can position itself as a regional leader in IP services, fostering trust among innovators, investors, and brand owners.
INTA’s partnership with URSB reflects a shared vision of building a dynamic and credible IP environment that not only protects ideas but also fuels sustainable business growth and innovation across Africa.
