URSB Co-Hosts Intellectual Property Clinic at UNESCO Africa Engineering Week
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has taken a leading role in advancing innovation by co-hosting the Intellectual Property (IP) Clinic during the 11th UNESCO Africa Engineering Week and 9th African Engineering Conference at Speke Resort Convention Centre, Munyonyo.
Held under the theme “Engineering a Resilient Africa: Unlocking the Potential of the Continental Free Trade Area,” the week-long event attracted engineers, innovators, policymakers, and academics from across the continent. This was the first time Uganda hosted the prestigious gathering.
At the IP Clinic, URSB provided free consultations and expert guidance on how innovators can protect and commercialize their creations through tools such as patents, trademarks, industrial designs, and copyrights. Local innovators and start-ups showcased groundbreaking solutions, receiving tailored advice from the URSB team and international partners.
This clinic aimed to bridge gaps in IP awareness, particularly among engineers and students, while encouraging innovators to treat intellectual property as a driver of business growth.
The clinic drew a wide range of stakeholders, strengthening regional cooperation around innovation and intellectual property protection. URSB’s active participation not only raised Uganda’s profile on the continental stage but also reaffirmed its mandate to foster creativity and support the country’s development agenda.
As Uganda played host to Africa’s engineering community for the first time, the successful IP Clinic was applauded as a milestone in positioning the country as a hub for engineering excellence and innovation support services.
