Registrar General Calls Case Digest a Blueprint for Transparent and Accessible Commercial Justice

Registrar General Ms. Mercy K. Kainobwisho hailed the launch of the URSB Case Digest 2025 as a landmark step in strengthening legal transparency, commercial justice, and public trust in Uganda’s regulatory systems.

Speaking at the launch on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Ms. Kainobwisho highlighted the digest as a landmark in public legal access, capturing for the first time decisions issued by URSB Registrars across company law, insolvency, and intellectual property, including trademark oppositions, copyright objections, and industrial design disputes.

“This digest is more than documentation; it is a living tool of precedent, education, and legal empowerment,” she remarked. “It reflects our belief that access to legal information is central to justice and governance.”

Notably, the digest also compiles court decisions where URSB was a party, offering stakeholders, from legal professionals to innovators, clarity on how commercial law is being interpreted and enforced in Uganda.

Ms. Kainobwisho applauded URSB’s legal teams and registrars for setting “a new standard of consistency and accountability,” emphasizing the Bureau’s commitment to regular updates of the digest to meet the dynamic needs of Uganda’s business and regulatory environment.

While acknowledging ongoing challenges, including limited public awareness of URSB’s quasi-judicial function, the Registrar General called on stakeholders to partner in evolving the digest into a dynamic resource.

“The future of commercial justice is bright,” she concluded. “Let this digest be our collective blueprint for a transparent and responsive legal system.”
