Fasting teaches us perseverance and self discipline – Registrar General

Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), through its Human Resource Department, organised a special Iftar dinner for its Muslim staff last Friday at the UBFC building rooftop in Kololo.

The event provided an opportunity for the organisation to celebrate and appreciate the dedication of its Muslim employees during the holy month of Ramadhan.

While addressing the gathering, Ms. Mercy K. Kainobwisho, the Registrar General, commended the Muslim staff for their commitment and hard work. She emphasised the importance of fasting, noting that it is a discipline that goes beyond religious observance.

“Fasting has a purpose. It teaches perseverance and self-discipline. Even health experts recommend fasting, just as it is encouraged in both the Bible and the Quran,” Ms. Kainobwisho remarked.

She further shared her personal experience with fasting, stating that she uses the period for self-reflection and spiritual cleansing.

“During this time, we should all take a moment to self-reflect; Are we right with God, with our neighbours, our community, our family, and our nation?” she posed to the attendees.

The Registrar General also urged supervisors and colleagues to be supportive of those fasting, acknowledging that fasting can lead to reduced energy levels. She reassured the staff that URSB has systems in place to accommodate and assist those observing Ramadhan.

The Iftar dinner was a moment of unity, reflection, and gratitude, reinforcing URSB’s commitment to embracing diversity and fostering inclusivity within the workplace.
