Uganda to Host Regional Symposium to Advance Copyright and Related Rights Management
Uganda is hosting the Symposium on Copyright and Related Rights Management from 19th–21st October 2026 in Kampala, bringing together stakeholders to discuss strategies for strengthening copyright protection and improving the management of creative works.
Organised through collaboration among the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and the African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation
(ARIPO), the symposium provides a platform for dialogue on copyright administration, collective management and the protection of creators’ rights.
The engagement comes at a time when Uganda continues to strengthen its intellectual property framework and promote a sustainable creative economy.
Copyright and related rights are essential to protecting the work of musicians, authors, performers, producers and other creative professionals, while enabling them to benefit from the commercial use of their creations.
Through its Copyright and Neighbouring Rights function, URSB plays a central role in copyright administration, public awareness and supporting the protection of creators’ interests.
The symposium is expected to encourage knowledge-sharing, strengthen institutional collaboration and explore practical approaches to improving rights management, enforcement and royalty administration.
The engagement reinforces Uganda’s commitment to building a stronger intellectual property ecosystem where creativity is protected, innovation is encouraged and creators can contribute meaningfully to national development.
