URSB Joins Nation in Mourning the Passing of King Oyo

The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) joins the entire nation in mourning the passing of His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, King of Tooro, who died at the age of 34 on Thursday, 27 August 2026.

The passing of the King was announced by the Tooro Kingdom through its official communication, with the Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, confirming that His Majesty passed away at approximately 10:00 p.m. The announcement was shared on X, describing the death as an immeasurable loss to the Royal Family, the people of Tooro and the nation of Uganda.

King Oyo ascended the Tooro throne on 12 September 1995 at just three years old, following the death of his father, Omukama Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III. He later became widely recognised as the world’s youngest reigning monarch.

During his reign, King Oyo was a prominent cultural leader who championed the preservation of Tooro’s heritage while supporting initiatives in areas including education, youth empowerment, environmental conservation, health and tourism.

URSB extends its heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family, the Batooro, the Tooro Kingdom and all Ugandans during this period of profound grief.

His Royal Highness will be remembered for his service, youthful leadership and contribution to the cultural heritage and development of Tooro and Uganda.

Omukama Atulize. Enkuba Etutire.
