URSB Destroys Goods Seized in Trademark Infringement Crackdown
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has destroyed counterfeit products seized from individuals found dealing in goods that infringed on registered trademarks.
The destruction was carried out at the Buyala Landfill as part of URSB’s efforts to protect intellectual property rights and safeguard consumers from counterfeit products.
Among the items destroyed were counterfeit agrochemical products bearing the trademarks of Bukoola Chemical Industries (U) Ltd, including 24D AMINE and WEED MASTER.
The products were seized from Nabiranda Angellah, who was found in possession of the items with the intention of selling them to consumers. She was subsequently convicted and fined by court.
URSB also destroyed counterfeit veterinary products that infringed on Monimix, a registered trademark owned by Vet Drug Uganda Limited.
Three suspects, Shakul John Bosco, Wasswa Joseph Ssegirinya and Kasaga Herbert, were found at Container Village in Nakivubo making and selling their own version of Tonimix at a lower price.
The products were seized following investigations into the unauthorised use of the registered trademark.
URSB warned traders against producing, stocking or selling goods bearing other people’s registered trademarks without permission, noting that such practices undermine legitimate businesses and expose consumers to potentially substandard products.
The destruction of the seized goods marks another step in URSB’s continued enforcement of intellectual property rights and promotion of fair competition in Uganda.
