URSB Participates in WIPO Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Interchange
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) participated virtually in the Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Interchange (AIII) on 18 September 2026.
Organised by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the AIII provides a multistakeholder platform for creators, rightsholders, technology developers and other stakeholders to exchange perspectives on the opportunities and challenges arising at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and intellectual property (IP).
The interchange explored practical issues relating to the infrastructure supporting creativity and innovation in the AI era, including attribution, licensing, transparency and collaboration. It also emphasised the importance of multistakeholder engagement in developing practical approaches to emerging challenges within the AI and IP ecosystem.
Representing URSB, Mr. Wabugo Michael, Senior Registration Officer, contributed to the discussions under the theme, “The Intersection of IP Infrastructure with AI Policy Development.”
The URSB participation enables the institution to contribute Uganda’s institutional perspective to global discussions on how IP systems can respond to technological developments driven by AI.

The engagement is particularly relevant to URSB’s mandate of administering and supporting Uganda’s IP system.
As AI increasingly influences the creation, development and commercialisation of innovative and creative works, emerging policy and technological developments have implications for IP registration, protection, enforcement and utilisation.
The discussions further contributed to WIPO’s broader work on AI governance, including global dialogue on safe, secure and trustworthy AI, interoperability and compatibility approaches.
