URSB’s Clara Tumwine Wins Global Recognition in WIPO Video Competition

Ms. Clara Tumwine, from the Department of Industrial Property at the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), has earned international recognition after winning third place in a video competition organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The competition, held in celebration of intellectual property (IP) examiners worldwide, invited participants to submit short 30 to 90-second videos highlighting the often unseen but critical work that examiners perform in assessing applications. Entrants were encouraged to use fictional examples to creatively illustrate the process of examination.

Tumwine’s entry was recognized for its clarity, creativity, and engaging storytelling. Through a fictional scenario, she effectively demonstrated the rigorous process behind protecting innovation while making the technical work of examiners relatable to the public.

Her recognition is a testament to the skill within the Bureau and as a reflection of Uganda’s growing visibility in the global intellectual property community through URSB. The achievement also highlighted the role of IP examiners in safeguarding creativity and innovation.

The WIPO video competition attracted submissions from examiners and aspiring examiners across different regions, highlighting the universal importance of intellectual property in driving innovation.
