URSB, IDLO Forge Strategic Partnership to Boost Access to Commercial Justice for Vulnerable Communities

The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) and the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) held their inaugural partnership meeting last week to strengthen access to commercial justice and business resilience for vulnerable populations.

The meeting was graced by officials from both institutions, led by the Acting Registrar General of URSB and the Country Manager of IDLO on July 9, 2025, at the Uganda Business Facilitation Centre (UBFC), Kololo.

The central focus was aligning efforts to support URSB’s mandate, particularly in underserved and marginalized communities such as refugees, women, and youth.

Key among the discussions was the development of a two-year joint work plan aimed at enhancing service delivery, promoting inclusive access to registration services, and strengthening Uganda’s business environment. Both parties emphasized the importance of practical interventions like translating Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials into local languages to make services more simplified and accessible.

Additionally, the partnership will explore avenues for business rescue, aftercare services for distressed enterprises, and broader institutional support to improve the efficiency of URSB’s operations. These initiatives are expected to boost formalization, economic inclusion, and sustainable enterprise growth, especially in hard-to-reach communities.

This partnership marks a significant step toward improving access to commercial justice and formal economic participation for vulnerable groups in Uganda. With IDLO’s global legal expertise and URSB’s national mandate, the collaboration is poised to drive meaningful transformation in how justice and business services are delivered across the country.
