URSB holds capacity building workshop on processing innovations for Kabale University teaching staff

As part of the broader strategy to enhance innovation, research commercialisation, and awareness of intellectual property (IP) rights across Uganda’s institutions of higher learning, the Uganda Registration
Services Bureau (URSB), last Friday held a comprehensive capacity building workshop for Kabale University teaching staff aimed at strengthening their understanding of processing and protecting innovations.

The workshop, conducted at the university’s main campus, focused on equipping academic staff with the knowledge and tools necessary to transform research outputs into protectable and commercially viable
intellectual property.

Led by staff from URSB, the workshop covered key topics including patent filing procedures, IP policy development, technology transfer, and the role of universities in fostering innovation ecosystems. Attendees included lecturers, researchers, and university administrators from various faculties.

Kabale University officials welcomed the training, describing it as timely and impactful in promoting a culture of innovation and protection of academic work.

URSB continues to roll out similar workshops across the country to build institutional capacity and foster a stronger innovation-driven economy.
