Commissioner of ICT urges entities to register under the New NIR System
The Commissioner for ICT and Innovation, Mr. Arthur Kwesiga, has called on entities across the country to embrace the new Non-Individual Register (NIR), saying it will improve transparency, coordination, and access to government services.
Speaking during an engagement with leaders from Greater Ankole at Las Vegas Hotel in Mbarara, Mr. Kwesiga who represented the Registrar General, Ms. Mercy K. Kainobwisho, said the NIR Register is designed to create a centralised and reliable system for organisations operating in Uganda.
The register will capture information on cooperatives, NGOs, religious institutions, associations, sports clubs, and other non-individual entities. She said the system will help the government and the public access accurate and trusted institutional information.
According to Mr. Kwesiga, the new register will replace fragmented registrations handled by different agencies, helping to reduce duplication and improve coordination between government institutions.

He noted that registered entities will benefit through improved credibility, easier access to opportunities and services, and stronger public trust.
The engagement brought together Chief Administrative Officers, District Commercial Officers, Community Development Officers, and religious and cultural leaders.
Mr. Kwesiga urged leaders to promote awareness and encourage organisations within their communities to register.
He further urged leaders and stakeholders to encourage organisations under their supervision to comply with registration requirements. He expressed confidence that with continued public awareness and improved registration services, the initiative will achieve its intended objectives across the country.
