URSB Partners to Support Business Formalisation among Refugees and Host Communities
Refugees and host communities in Kampala and the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area are set to receive support to formalise their businesses and improve their participation in economic activities through the MTIC Opportunity Fund Project.
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) participated in the project’s inception meeting held on 27 October 2026 at Silver Springs Hotel, Kampala. The meeting was organised by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in partnership with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives (MTIC).
The project seeks to expand self-employment and livelihood opportunities through interventions such as business registration, product certification, licensing, and other enterprise development services.
During the meeting, URSB highlighted the importance of business registration in giving enterprises legal recognition, building credibility and creating growth opportunities. The Bureau also guided stakeholders on the different business structures, registration requirements and the need to meet statutory filing and post-registration obligations.

Participants were further sensitised on intellectual property protection, particularly the importance of safeguarding business names, brands and other eligible creations.
The engagement provided an opportunity for URSB and other participating institutions to explore areas of collaboration in helping project beneficiaries navigate regulatory processes and access relevant business support services.
By bringing registration and intellectual property services closer to refugees and host communities, the initiative offers an opportunity for more entrepreneurs to formalise their businesses, protect their brands, and build sustainable livelihoods.
