URSB Builds UNOC Capacity in Intellectual Property Management Ahead of 10-X Innovation Hub Launch
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) is strengthening Uganda’s innovation ecosystem by building the capacity of the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) Innovation Management Team to protect and commercialise intellectual assets ahead of the launch of the 10-X Innovation Hub.
The engagement, held on 25 August 2026 at UNOC offices in Kampala, equipped the team with practical knowledge on identifying, protecting, managing and commercialising intellectual assets generated through innovation.
The training was facilitated by Denis Birungi, Senior Registration Officer at URSB, who guided the team through key principles of IP management and stressed the importance of considering IP throughout the innovation journey, from ideation and evaluation to protection, commercialisation and enforcement.
Mr. Birungi emphasised that early identification and protection of intellectual assets can help institutions minimise risks, safeguard innovations and create opportunities to generate economic and strategic value. He also encouraged UNOC to develop an institutional IP Policy to provide a clear framework for managing its intellectual assets.

The UNOC team was led by Davies Alex Ssebowa, Manager Corporate Innovation.
The engagement was a platform for fostering innovation and developing solutions relevant to Uganda’s oil and gas sector.
URSB is supporting institutions to build stronger IP management systems, enabling innovators to protect their creativity, attract investment and convert knowledge and technology into opportunities that contribute to Uganda’s economic transformation.
