Registrar General Joins Community in National Cleaning Day to Promote Healthy and Sustainable Communities
The Registrar General, Ms. Mercy K. Kainobwisho, joined residents in her community to take part in Uganda’s inaugural National Cleaning Day, restating the importance of collective action in building cleaner, healthier and more sustainable communities.
Ms. Kainobwisho joined community members in unclogging drainage channels, slashing overgrown bushes and sweeping access roads, contributing to efforts aimed at improving sanitation and creating a cleaner living environment.
The National Cleaning Day, an initiative of the Government of Uganda, seeks to encourage citizens, institutions and communities to take responsibility for the cleanliness of their surroundings.
The programme was introduced as a monthly exercise to be observed on the last Saturday of every month as part of efforts to prevent disease outbreaks, improve public health and promote environmental stewardship.
Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja officially launched the initiative in Kisenyi, Kampala, where she joined residents in the clean-up exercise and urged all Ugandans to make community cleanliness a shared responsibility. She noted that the programme reflects government’s commitment to creating healthier and more liveable communities across the country.
By participating alongside her neighbours, Ms. Kainobwisho demonstrated that leadership extends beyond the workplace and into the community. Her involvement mirrored URSB’s commitment to responsible citizenship and supporting national initiatives that improve the well-being of Ugandans.
The Bureau encourages all staff and the public to actively participate in future National Cleaning Days, recognising that clean communities are essential for healthier lives and sustainable national development.
