URSB Trains QCIL Teams to Guard Against IP Infringement
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has increased efforts to protect innovations in Uganda’s pharmaceutical industry by holding a specialized training session for Quality Chemical Industries Limited (QCIL) and other important stakeholders.
The bureau engaged the Legal and Marketing teams of QCIL at the company’s plant headquarters in Luzira last week, focusing on the development of a comprehensive Intellectual Property (IP) Policy. The initiative aims to help QCIL protect its innovations, strengthen brand integrity, and stay competitive in local, regional, and global markets.
QCIL, a World Health Organization (WHO) pre-qualified manufacturer, is currently expanding its product range and rebranding its portfolio. These developments, while promising for business growth, also increase the risk of intellectual property infringement. A robust IP Policy will enable the company to identify, register, and enforce rights over its brands, formulas, and designs, thereby shielding them from imitation.
URSB emphasizes that effective IP management is not only a defensive tool but also a strategic asset for attracting investment, opening new markets, and ensuring sustainability. Participants described the training as timely, equipping them with practical strategies to navigate the evolving pharmaceutical business landscape.
URSB is committed to empowering Ugandan businesses to leverage intellectual property for growth, with plans to extend similar training to other sectors in the near future.
