URSB shines at Bank of Uganda’s 10th Annual Suppliers’ Conference: A step towards inclusive development

The Bank of Uganda (BoU) recently hosted its 10th Annual Suppliers’ Conference at Hotel Africana, Kampala, under the theme, “Building Capacity of Local Suppliers and Special Groups for Socio-Economic
Development.”

This significant event, held on 15th May 2025, served as a vital platform for fostering partnerships between the bank and local suppliers, including women, youth, and persons with disabilities.

The conference featured notable speakers, including Hon. Hellen Asamo, Minister of State for Gender, Labour and Social Development, who urged the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) to initiate a
project for registering businesses owned by persons with disabilities. This initiative aims to enhance
access to government supply chains and loan schemes.

Governor Bank of Uganda, Michael Atingi-Ego, emphasised the importance of each tender- awarded, viewing it as an opportunity to empower local businesses and contribute to inclusive development. “Every contract signed is a step toward building Uganda’s future,” he stated, reinforcing BoU’s commitment to maintaining price stability and supporting socio-economic transformation amidst challenges like COVID-19 and global aid cuts.

Participants were encouraged to engage with key exhibitors, including URSB, PSFU, URA, UNBS, PPDA, and NSSF, to explore growth opportunities. A panel discussion focused on empowering local suppliers and improving access to procurement opportunities through continuous capacity-building.
