NEW WORLD BANK COUNTRY DIRECTOR FOR UGANDA VISITS URSB & SISTER AGENCIES AT UBFC

The Registrar General, Ms. Mercy K. Kainobwisho hands over a gift hamper to the new World Bank Country Director for Uganda, Mr. Qimiao Fan during the visit

The newly appointed World Bank Country Director for Uganda, Qimiao Fan, on Friday visited the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) and its sister agencies located within the Uganda Business Facilitation Centre (UBFC) in Kololo. This visit marked an important opportunity for dialogue and collaboration between the World Bank and key stakeholders in Uganda’s business environment.

During the visit, Mr. Qimiao Fan was warmly welcomed by the Registrar General, Ms. Mercy K. Kainobwisho, along with other senior URSB officials including the Acting Deputy Registrar General, Mr. Arthur Kwesiga who front-led the visit to the One Stop Centre.

The meeting focused on discussing the critical role that URSB and its affiliated agencies play in enhancing the business landscape in Uganda. The URSB team used the opportunity to highlight efforts in streamlining business registration processes and protecting intellectual property rights, which are essential for fostering a conducive environment for entrepreneurship.

The UBFC is a Government of Uganda building that houses offices of key investment and business related agencies: URSB, Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) the Capital Markets Authority (CMA), and the Presidential CEO Forum. Its construction was funded by the World Bank under the Competitiveness and Enterprise Development Project (CEDP) to improve the ease of doing business and economic competitiveness. The aim of the one-stop shop is also to increase itseffectiveness and to improve service delivery to the business community.

In his remarks, Mr. Fan said there is a need for the government to look at various laws, policies, and regulations that constrain ease of doing business and streamline or reduce them or update them in order to improve the investment and business climate.

The Registrar General, expressed gratitude to the World Bank and CEDP for funding the construction of the UBFC and other initiatives that have transformed business registration services.
