Hon. Balaam Barugahara to grace UGYOUTH4IP Conference as Guest of Honour

The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) is set to host the highly anticipated UGYOUTH4IP Conference, a platform dedicated to empowering young Ugandans with knowledge and tools on intellectual property (IP) and its pivotal role in national development.

The conference, running under the theme “Unlocking Youth Potential Through Intellectual Property Awareness for National Development,” will be graced by Hon. Balaam Barugahara, the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, as the Guest of Honour.

Slated for Wednesday 9th April, 2025 at the Uganda Business Facilitation Centre, the conference will also be addressed by the URSB board of directors Chairman, Rt. Hon. Ambassador Francis Butagira, Registrar General, Ms. Mercy K. Kainobwisho, alongside representatives from the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

The UGYOUTH4IP Conference will bring together young innovators, entrepreneurs, creatives, legal professionals, and academia in a dialogue on how IP can be harnessed to create jobs, add value to creative works, and foster enterprise growth among the youth.

The event will feature interactive sessions on all aspects of intellectual property, as well as success stories from young Ugandans who have benefited from IP awareness and registration.

According to the Registrar General, the conference is part of the URSB’s ongoing efforts to ensure that young people are not only creators of ideas but also beneficiaries of the commercial value of those ideas.

Hon. Balaam Barugahara’s participation signals government’s increasing commitment to building a knowledge[1]based economy driven by innovation, creativity, and youth inclusion.

In his keynote address, the Minister is expected to highlight the importance of IP in protecting young innovators’ ideas and enabling them to thrive in competitive markets.

“We believe that when youth understand and protect their intellectual property, they are better positioned to innovate, earn, and contribute meaningfully to national development,” The Minister says.
