URSB Intensifies Drive to Unlock Credit through SIMPO Sensitisation in Hoima
Efforts to expand access to affordable credit in Uganda received a boost as the Uganda Registration Services Bureau rolled out a two-day stakeholder sensitization and training on the use of movable property as loan collateral.
Held from April 15 to 16, the engagement was attended by lenders, borrowers, financial institutions and government representatives to deepen understanding of the Security Interest in Movable Property Registry System (SIMPO). The initiative focused on promoting confidence in secured lending and improving transparency in financial transactions.
As part of the outreach, the SIMPO team hosted a live radio talk show on Spice FM Hoima, where they explained how assets such as motor vehicles, machinery and inventory can be used to secure loans. The discussion also highlighted the system’s integration with the Motor Vehicle Registry, making it easier to register and verify collateral while reducing fraud and double pledging.
The sensitisation culminated in a physical training workshop at Hoima Resort Hotel, attracting over 78 participants. The Guest of Honor Amuli Kintu Kasugga commended URSB for increasing awareness and urged money lenders to adopt the system.
Participants actively engaged with facilitators, gaining practical knowledge on registration, searches and compliance. Many welcomed SIMPO as a timely innovation expected to strengthen trust, improve access to finance and support business growth.
