Registrar General Urges Young Entrepreneurs to Embrace Discipline and Innovation for Business Growth
The Registrar General, Ms. Mercy K. Kainobwisho, has called on young entrepreneurs to adopt proper record keeping, effective time management, and smart use of social media to grow and sustain their businesses.
She made the remarks while opening the week-long Business Rescue and Aftercare Program (BRAP) for young entrepreneurs at the Uganda Business Facilitation Centre in Kololo.
Ms. Kainobwisho emphasized that many startups fail not because of lack of ideas, but due to poor financial discipline and weak management practices. “Some people eat their capital and employ their relatives who lack the necessary skills. Therefore, we need to have proper bookkeeping and comply with statutory requirements to save our businesses,” she cautioned.
She encouraged the youth to leverage the power of digital platforms and social media to promote their brands and expand their customer reach, noting that technology presents unmatched opportunities for growth in today’s competitive market.
The Registrar General further urged entrepreneurs to take advantage of the existing tax incentives and government support programs available for startups. “There is no problem in starting similar businesses to the existing ones; what matters is innovation, consistency, and compliance,” she added.
Ms. Kainobwisho reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating an enabling business environment through capacity-building initiatives such as BRAP, designed to strengthen entrepreneurship, promote formalization, and support business recovery and sustainability among Uganda’s young business community.
