URSB Joins Top Agencies in National Cybersecurity Drive
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has been selected among the top ten government institutions to implement an Information Security Management System (ISMS) in line with the ISO 27001:2022 standard, aimed at strengthening cybersecurity resilience.
The development was highlighted last week during a champions’ training held at the Uganda Business Facilitation Centre auditorium in Kololo, Kampala.
The training was organised under the Uganda Development Acceleration Project (UDAP), with the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance leading the implementation, and the National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) supporting the process.
The training brought together selected staff, referred to as “champions,” who will spearhead the rollout of the ISMS within their respective institutions. The programme is scheduled to run until May 2024.
According to organisers, the training aimed to equip participants with a clear understanding of the ISO 27001:2022 standard and define their role in implementing and sustaining the system. This includes safeguarding institutional data, managing information risks, and ensuring compliance with global cybersecurity standards.
Officials noted that the initiative is part of broader government efforts to enhance digital security across public institutions amid rising cyber threats. By adopting the ISMS framework, URSB is expected to strengthen its systems, protect sensitive information, and improve public trust in its services.
The selection underscores URSB’s commitment to modernising its operations and aligning with international best practices in information security.
