URSB Hosts CMA Delegation for Knowledge-Sharing Benchmarking Visit
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has hosted a benchmarking delegation from the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) in a visit aimed at strengthening collaboration and sharing best practices in legal and enforcement work.
The engagement provided an opportunity for both institutions to exchange ideas and learn from each other’s experiences in supporting Uganda’s regulatory and legal systems.
During the introductory session, Patience Buhikire, Acting Commissioner for Legal Services and Secretary to the Board, highlighted three key pillars guiding the Bureau’s legal and enforcement operations.
One of the highlights discussed was the URSB Case Digest, an annual publication that compiles court decisions where URSB is a party in civil and insolvency matters, rulings from registrars exercising the Bureau’s quasi-judicial functions, and criminal cases prosecuted by the Bureau.

Since its launch, the publication has received positive feedback from members of the legal fraternity and other stakeholders, with the team committed to improving each edition.
The delegation also learned about URSB’s prosecution work, which stems from its statutory mandate and includes cases related to intellectual property infringement, counterfeiting, and fraud. URSB works closely with the Directorate of Public Prosecutions and has licensed prosecutors within its legal team.

URSB also showcased its enforcement efforts against counterfeit goods and copyright infringement, a function that has been active since 2016.
Benchmarking visits like this one are how institutions grow. We thank the CMA team for the engagement and look forward to more of these conversations.
