Registrar General Pays Tribute to S.M. & Co. Advocates during Courtesy Visit Honouring Her Professional Roots
The Registrar General, Ms. Mercy K. Kainobwisho, led a delegation from the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) on a courtesy visit to Dr. Alan Shonubi, Senior Partner at S.M. & Co. Advocates, at the firm’s offices in Kampala on Tuesday, 10th March 2026.
The visit served as a formal acknowledgement of Dr. Shonubi and S.M. & Co. Advocates for their contribution to the Registrar General’s professional development prior to her public service career. Ms. Kainobwisho noted that S.M. & Co. Advocates holds a special place in her journey, as it was her first formal employer after graduating from university.
She further explained that it was within the walls of the firm that she took her earliest professional steps. Under the mentorship of its legal practice, she was trained in the discipline of attention to detail and introduced to the fundamentals and demands of commercial law practice, values that have visibly shaped her professional character and leadership approach throughout her career in public service.

She emphasised that one should never become so consumed by where they are going that they forget to honour where they came from and, most importantly, those who shaped them along the way.
Dr. Alan Shonubi warmly received the delegation and expressed his appreciation for the thoughtful gesture. He noted that he was pleasantly surprised that the delegation included members of URSB’s top management and congratulated the Registrar General on completing her first term with remarkable results, particularly in driving institutional reforms that have led to improved service delivery.
