URSB Urges Founders to Formalise Businesses at Mbarara Founders Day Café
Entrepreneurs in Mbarara have been urged to prioritise business formalisation as a critical step toward sustainable growth and credibility in Uganda’s evolving enterprise ecosystem.
The call was made during the Founders Day Café held on March 6 at Hive Colab in Mbarara, where Nicholas Tumwebaze, Manager at the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) Mbarara Regional Office, delivered a keynote session titled “Formalise to Scale: Building Compliant and Sustainable Businesses.”
Addressing a gathering of startup founders, innovators, and small business owners, Tumwebaze emphasised that while many entrepreneurs focus on expanding markets and increasing traction, long-term success begins with establishing a strong legal and regulatory foundation.

“Formalisation is a strategic step that enables businesses to build credibility, attract partnerships, and access new opportunities,” he noted.
The interactive session explored practical steps entrepreneurs can take to register and structure their businesses, including compliance with licensing requirements and the protection of intellectual property.
Participants also gained insights into how formalised enterprises are better positioned to secure financing, engage in partnerships, and scale sustainably.
The Founders Day Café, hosted at Hive Colab in Mbarara, brought together members of the region’s growing startup community to exchange ideas and learn from experts supporting Uganda’s entrepreneurship ecosystem.
The initiative aims to equip entrepreneurs with the knowledge needed to build compliant, resilient businesses that can grow and compete in both local and global markets.
