On 12th March 2025, at the Uganda Business Facilitation Center in Kololo, the Registrar General and the Presidential Adviser on Creatives discussed boosting creative sector monetization through improved stakeholder coordination and URSB reforms ahead of World Intellectual Property Day.

URSB Earns Continental Praise as Global IP Leaders Applaud Efficiency
The Intellectual Property Department of the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) last week hosted a high-level courtesy visit from leading legal practitioners MMAKS Advocates, emphasising Uganda’s growing reputation as a regional leader in intellectual property administration.
The delegation from MMAKS Advocates was led by Mathias Victor Ssekatawa, Partner – Litigation & Intellectual Property, and Brian Kajubi, Legal Associate – Litigation & Intellectual Property.
They were accompanied by Ms. Jennifer Colantoni from globally renowned IP firm Spoor. Fisher.


The team was received by Commissioner Intellectual Property, Mr. Robert Mugabe, alongside Assistant Commissioner Allan Kakungulu and senior officers Michael Wabugo, Sarah Rukundo, Mark Tugume, and Steven Baryevuga.
During the meeting, the MMAKS team commended URSB for its fast and efficient approval of trademark registrations, noting that streamlined processes are critical in supporting business growth and protecting innovation.
Ms. Colantoni particularly applauded URSB’s professionalism, responsiveness, and commitment to service excellence, describing it as one of the most efficient national IP offices on the African continent.
The visit highlighted URSB’s continued efforts to modernize IP administration and strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders in the legal and innovation ecosystem. Both teams expressed a shared commitment to deepen collaboration, enhance knowledge exchange, and further strengthen intellectual property systems.


As Uganda positions itself as a competitive destination for investment and innovation, such engagements affirm URSB’s central role in driving economic growth through a strong and trusted intellectual property framework.
