URSB Advances IP in Schools Program to Nurture Young Innovators
The Intellectual Property (IP) Team, led by Senior Registration Officer Ageet Abraham, last week visited The Olive School Namugongo Nsawo as part of follow-up engagements under the recently launched IP in Schools Program.
The initiative, officially launched in December 2025 by the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Mr. Daren Tang, is designed to integrate intellectual property awareness into the education system. The program equips learners with knowledge on how to identify, protect, and commercialise their creations, fostering innovation from an early age.
During the visit, the URSB team met with the school administration to discuss practical steps for implementation and how the program will be embedded into learning activities.
A highlight of the engagement was an interaction with student innovators Arinaitwe Elvis and Nsimbe Mackenzie, who presented their “DOC 24/7 Robot” — a prototype developed to accurately dispense medicine.

The innovation was inspired by a real-life experience after Elvis witnessed incorrect medication being administered at a local health facility. Through research and teacher mentorship, the students transformed their idea into a working prototype.
The visit highlighted the transformative potential of intellectual property education in schools. By nurturing creativity, strengthening awareness of IP protection, and guiding learners on turning ideas into viable solutions, URSB continues to empower young minds to contribute meaningfully to Uganda’s innovation and economic growth agenda.
