URSB, State House Partner to Roll out New Copyright Monitoring System
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has joined hands with the State House Science, Technology, and Innovation team to advance the rollout of a new Copyright Management System (CMS) aimed at strengthening protection for Ugandan creators.
The engagement meeting, held last week at the Uganda Business Facilitation Centre (UBFC) in Kololo, was attended by the Copyright Team and the State House Science team to discuss the system’s first phase of implementation.
The CMS is an innovative digital platform designed to monitor and track the use of creative works, starting with musical content in hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues across Uganda.
During the session, the State House team gave a live demonstration of the system, demonstrating how it can improve transparency, accountability, and revenue collection for copyright holders.
URSB was represented by Commissioners from the Business Registry, Intellectual Property, and Legal Services Directorates, as well as members of the Copyright Department and senior management.
Participants exchanged insights on how to refine the system to align with national copyright laws and international best practices. A stakeholder survey was also conducted to gather feedback that will guide further system improvements.
Both URSB and the State House team affirmed to strengthen the ongoing collaboration and timely system deployment. The CMS is expected to be officially launched before the end of the year, marking a major milestone in promoting fairness and compliance within Uganda’s creative industry.
