Registrar General Champions Arbitration as Key to Business Confidence at CIArb Uganda Inaugural Conference
Registrar General, Ms. Mercy K. Kainobwisho, has called for stronger adoption of arbitration to boost governance, manage business risks, and enhance investor confidence in Uganda’s growing economy.
The Registrar General made the call on 13th November 2025 while speaking during the CEO Roundtable Panel Discussion, held as part of the Inaugural Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) – Uganda Chapter Conference at the Mestil Hotel in Kampala.

The high-level dialogue brought together visionary leaders and experts to examine arbitration’s role in shaping a stable and investor-friendly business environment.
Ms. Kainobwisho emphasized that timely and fair dispute resolution is essential for a thriving business ecosystem, noting that URSB continues to champion alternative dispute resolution (ADR) as a cornerstone of business facilitation. “The ability to resolve disputes quickly and fairly is a key indicator of how easy it is to do business in any country,” she said.
Highlighting URSB’s Quasi-Judicial mandate, she explained that the Bureau frequently handles disputes involving directors, shareholders, and intellectual property (IP) rights owners. She noted that arbitration, when supported by the right enablers such as affordability, accessibility, and efficiency remains one of the most reliable tools for resolving commercial and IP-related conflicts.

Ms. Kainobwisho further pointed to global trends, observing that countries are increasingly adopting ADR mechanisms aligned with international frameworks. She referenced the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) 2022 ADR Rules, which guide IP offices worldwide, including Uganda, in managing disputes with fairness and consistency.
