URSB’s Digital Transformation Enhances Service Access and Transparency

The Uganda Registration Services Bureau has reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging technology to improve service delivery, with Commissioner ICT Mr. Arthur Kwesiga highlighting the bureau’s journey of digital transformation during the Uganda Law Society (ULS) TechFest 2025 held from August 14th to 15th at Commonwealth Resort, Munyonyo.

Speaking on a panel discussion under the topic “Leveraging Technology to Optimize Processes and Improve Customer Experience”, Mr. Kwesiga explained how URSB has eliminated inefficiencies through full digitization of its services.

“We started by digitizing all paper records to solve the problem of missing files and limited access. Today, all URSB services are available online, accessible 24/7 from anywhere in Uganda,” he said.

He outlined two key phases of URSB’s transformation: public access and simplicity. With the introduction of the Online Business Registration System (OBRS), clients can search company registration statuses, track applications, and access accounts remotely. This has widened access beyond Kampala and reduced in-person interactions, minimizing corruption while making services predictable and efficient.

Mr. Kwesiga also emphasized the importance of system integration with national partners, noting real-time links with NIRA for instant identity verification and with URA to ensure government revenue is paid before registrations are processed. These integrations, he added, have strengthened data quality and boosted non-tax revenue collection.

URSB’s digital-first approach, Mr. Kwesiga stressed, demonstrates how technology can deliver transparency, efficiency, and better customer experiences while supporting Uganda’s broader digital economy goals.
