URSB Benchmarks with URA to Strengthen Enforcement and Exhibit Management
The Compliance and Enforcement Division of the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has benchmarked with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to draw lessons on effective enforcement, investigations, and exhibit management.
The benchmarking visit took place at URA headquarters in Nakawa last week, where the URSB team engaged with enforcement officers to learn from URA’s established practices. Discussions covered intelligence gathering, enforcement operations, and the handling of exhibits in warehouses and stores.
Among the key lessons was the importance of continuous staff training at border points and local markets to improve enforcement capacity. The team also highlighted the value of proper storage infrastructure, especially for sensitive goods that require controlled environments. URA further shared insights on cost-allocation mechanisms in its legislation, which ease the financial burden of storing and disposing of exhibits.
The session highlighted the need for collaboration between the two agencies in tackling illicit trade, particularly counterfeiting, which continues to affect Uganda’s economy. Both sides recognized intelligence sharing and joint enforcement as practical solutions to addressing counterfeit goods in the market and protecting legitimate businesses.
The visit concluded with a clear roadmap for URSB to adopt adaptable strategies aimed at improving its enforcement and investigation work. These include strengthening operational systems, investing in staff capacity, and enhancing exhibit management.
By applying these lessons, URSB will sharpen its enforcement function, safeguard fair competition, and build stronger public trust in its operations.
