National Producers’ Guild Workshop Boosts Skills for Local Film Producers

A recent workshop hosted by the Department of Copyright and Neighbouring Rights has provided over 100 film producers and industry stakeholders with essential skills for navigating the film sector in Uganda.

The event, organized by the National Producers’ Guild of Uganda (NPGU) in partnership with MultiChoice Uganda, attracted 110 participants, including independent producers, representatives from the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), the Uganda Federation of Movie Industry (UFMI), and MultiChoice Uganda.

During the workshop, attendees engaged in presentations and panel discussions focused on key topics such as product distribution, revenue sharing, and selecting the right distribution partners. Industry experts highlighted challenges facing the Ugandan film market, emphasizing the need to enhance content quality, master pitching techniques, and implement efficient production practices.

Participants also received hands-on training in business formalization, project pitching, film production, and distribution. These sessions aimed to equip producers with practical skills they can use immediately to improve their work and create new opportunities.

In addition to learning, the workshop served as a valuable networking platform, helping to build connections within the local film industry. Organizers emphasized that these kinds of events are crucial for empowering Ugandan filmmakers and developing a dynamic film sector that supports cultural expression and boosts economic growth.
