Kisubi Innovators Trained on Intellectual Property Protection and Commercialization
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), in collaboration with the University of Kisubi, conducted a training on strengthening innovation and research commercialization through an Intellectual Property (IP) Clinic held on 19th August 2025.
The clinic aimed to equip researchers, students, and innovators with practical knowledge on IP protection, management, and commercialization. Participants were introduced to URSB’s IP services, the Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs) program, and received technical training on patent searches to assess the novelty and market-readiness of their innovations.
Showcasing Kisubi’s creativity, the university presented several projects, including the Unique Eco Bike, a Lecture Notes Generator, a Smart Traffic System, and biomedical research on veterinary diagnostics and milk safety.
The URSB delegation included Mr. Ageet Abraham, Mr. Lumu Bob Rogers, and Ms. Asiimwe Allen, who were hosted by Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. Mugema Deogratias (FIC).
The event was officially opened by Deputy Vice Chancellor Brother Celestine Kakooza (PhD, FIC). Attendees included senior university leaders, deans, researchers, innovators, and students.
URSB emphasized that while Uganda has a strong pool of innovative talent, many creators lack awareness about the importance of registering their intellectual property. This gap, they noted, limits opportunities for innovators to benefit from their work and scale it commercially.
URSB and the University of Kisubi pledged to strengthen collaboration, support innovators to file for IP protection, and maximize the use of TISC resources to transform university research into market-ready products.
