URSB to Join ARIPO in Strengthening Copyright Protection Across Africa’s Audio-Visual Sector
As Africa’s creative economy expands, Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) is set to play a key role in an anticipated regional seminar aimed at enhancing copyright systems across the continent.
The 4th ARIPO Regional Seminar on Copyright and Related Rights for Audio-Visual CMOs and Copyright Offices will take place from September 10th to 12th, 2025, and will be attended by stakeholders from across ARIPO member states to tackle emerging copyright challenges in the audio-visual industry.
The seminar, organized by the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO), is part of its broader mandate to support the development, management, and enforcement of copyright and related rights. A central participant in this effort is the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), Uganda’s national copyright office and ARIPO member.
URSB will share its experience in promoting rights protection, streamlining collective management systems, and supporting content creators through legal registration and advisory services. With Uganda’s creative sector, including film, music, and digital content, growing rapidly, URSB’s insights will be valuable in shaping best practices and harmonizing policy across the region.
The seminar will focus on capacity building for Collective Management Organizations (CMOs) and copyright offices, addressing legal frameworks, digital enforcement, and fair remuneration for creators.
URSB’s participation reinforces Uganda’s commitment to protecting intellectual property, promoting innovation, and advancing regional cooperation in copyright governance, key pillars for a thriving creative economy in Africa.
