URSB Takes Part in Mama Tendo Symposium to Promote Parenting as a Pillar for National Development
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) joined key stakeholders on July 31, 2025, at Kololo Independence Grounds for the Mama Tendo Parenting Symposium, reaffirming its support for promoting strong families as a foundation for resilient communities and national development.
Held under the theme “Parental Involvement, Sex Education and Children’s Wellbeing,” the symposium brought together parents, educators, policymakers, and children to discuss the critical role of parenting in shaping Uganda’s future.
Hon. Janet Museveni, First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, graced the event as the Guest of Honour. In her keynote address, she expressed concern about the rise in mental health challenges among young people and the dangers of unfiltered digital content. She emphasized the need for value-based parenting and more active parental engagement.
She also launched five children’s books tailored for different age groups, designed to help parents navigate difficult conversations and promote African identity. “I am glad the pictures are African. Our children often grow up wanting to look different because the books they read don’t reflect them,” she noted.
Catherine Ruhweza, CEO of Mama Tendo Foundation, announced plans to establish a national Parenting and Research Centre to support caregivers and integrate parenting into national development agendas.
URSB’s participation emphasized its role in copyright protection, particularly in supporting creators of educational content like the newly launched children’s books. By promoting legal frameworks that protect intellectual property, URSB continues to support family-centered innovation and the nurturing of Uganda’s next generation.
