Registrar General Kainobwisho Joins Global IP Leaders at Largest-Ever WIPO Assemblies

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) officially opened its Sixty-Sixth Series of Assemblies, welcoming the largest-ever number of delegates, including Uganda’s Registrar General, Ms. Mercy K. Kainobwisho, highlighting a renewed global commitment to innovation and IP protection.

Taking place from 8th to 17th July, 2025, in Geneva, Switzerland, the Assemblies have drawn over 1,600 delegates, many at ministerial level, to deliberate on WIPO’s 2026/27 work plan, global treaty frameworks, and innovation-enabling systems.

Registrar General Ms. Mercy K. Kainobwisho is actively participating in the high-level discussions, reinforcing Uganda’s dedication to strengthening its intellectual property (IP) ecosystem.

WIPO Director General Mr. Daren Tang officially opened the meetings, calling on member states to work collaboratively to ensure that IP remains a key driver of global economic, cultural, and social growth. He also celebrated the admission of the Federated States of Micronesia as WIPO’s 194th member state.

In a lighter moment, Ms. Kainobwisho shared a conversation with Mr. Sandris Laganouskis, Director of International Cooperation at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), a key institution in trademark and design protection across the EU.

This year’s assemblies emphasize WIPO’s commitment to inclusivity, digital transformation, and sustainable development through Intellectual Property.
