URSB joins forces with RUFORUM to boost IP management in academic research
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) took part in a workshop on Intellectual Property (IP) Management to support the commercialisation of academic research, hosted by the Regional
Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) at Nkumba University on 30th May 2025.
RUFORUM, a prominent network based at Makerere University, connects 175 universities across 40 African countries, fostering innovation and capacity building in agriculture and related fields. The workshop was attended by senior university leadership and researchers to build their capacity in managing IP for commercial impact.
URSB’s Senior Registration Officer for Technology and Innovation Support Centres (TISCs), Mr. Lumu Bob Rogers, delivered an insightful presentation on URSB’s services, the fundamentals of IP, the TISC programme, and strategies for IP commercialisation.
Professor Jude T. Lubega, Vice Chancellor of Nkumba University, served as the event’s Chief Guest and emphasised the importance of translating research into marketable products and services. As a result of the workshop, participants gained a deeper understanding of various forms of IP, the role of TISCs, and practical approaches to commercialising research outputs. This workshop marks a significant step towards bridging the gap between academic research and industry through effective IP management.
