URSB positions Uganda’s entrepreneurial power at the Africa Investment and Trade Forum
Uganda Registration Services Bureau participated in the 11th Africa Investment and Trade Forum (AFIC11), which was held from 10th to 11th May 2025 at the Sheraton Hotel in Algiers, Algeria. URSB was represented by Assistant Commissioner, Ms. Patricia Opoka Akello, Senior Registration Officer, Ms.
Charlotte Mudoola and Senior Regulation Officer, Ms. Maureen Nabachwa.
The forum was convened under the theme: “Integration for African Prosperity”, aligning with the goals of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the operational objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA).
The event brought together key stakeholders across government, private sector, financial institutions, development partners, and civil society to foster dialogue and cooperation on Africa’s investment and
industrialisation agenda.
One of the central themes was the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) as a mechanism to eliminate trade barriers and unlock Africa’s collective economic potential.
According to Ms. Patricia Opoka, Assistant Commissioner Document Registration and Licensing, URSB’s work including easing the doing of business was supporting foreign firms to set up enterprises in the country. “Uganda was mentioned positively for its steps toward formalising MSMEs, a core pillar of URSB’s work especially in digitising the business registration process.”
URSB had an opportunity to participate in a panel discussion where the team spoke about steps and
requirements on business registration and marketed the online business registration system, OBRS.
The URSB delegation engaged with international counterparts, development partners, and investors to explore synergies that could enhance Uganda’s business and investment climate.
