URSB highlights role of insolvency reform in achieving national development goals
At the forefront of advocating for a resilient Ugandan economy, the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has emphasised the crucial role of a robust insolvency framework in fostering sustainable business practices during the 2025 Insolvency Conference.
Ms. Lydia Aliwonya, representing the URSB Board Chair, conveyed this powerful message by highlighting the institution’s unwavering commitment to Uganda’s National Development Plan. She articulated the urgent need for a resilient and sustainable business environment, essential for overcoming economic challenges.
In her address, Ms. Aliwonya stressed that a strong insolvency ecosystem is vital for facilitating business recovery and boosting economic growth. She pointed out the importance of equipping stakeholders with the necessary skills in business rescue, restructuring, and insolvency management to protect enterprises amid economic uncertainties.
“A robust insolvency ecosystem is critical for business recovery and economic growth,” she asserted, underlining the URSB’s proactive measures to develop frameworks that enhance economic resilience.
Celebrating URSB’s recent achievements, including improved revenue collection and the continued success of the One-Stop Business Centre, Ms. Aliwonya stressed that these initiatives are crucial for simplifying the business landscape and fostering the long-term sustainability of local enterprises.
“As our economy evolves, so must our solutions. Addressing insolvency challenges requires innovation, collaboration, and capacity building,” she urged, calling for united efforts from regulators, insolvency practitioners, and industry stakeholders.
The conference served as a platform for legal, financial, and regulatory experts to share insights on sustainable insolvency practices.
