URSB Board Members and staff receive training on Artificial Intelligence

A team from the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) recently participated in training on Artificial Intelligence at the 14th Annual Directors and Company Secretaries’ Conference, held under the theme “Artificial Intelligence – Transforming the Corporate Governance Landscape.” The event was organised by KPMG and the Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland in partnership with ICSA Uganda.

Mr. Peter Swabey, a representative from the UK ICSA, provided insights into AI regulation in the European Union. He highlighted the EU’s ongoing efforts to regulate AI, ensuring its ethical and transparent use. He stressed the importance of compliance in AI adoption, noting that ethical considerations should be at the forefront.

Keynote speaker Mr. Michael Jjingo, Head of Business at Centenary Bank, emphasised the need for strategic AI awareness across various sectors, including finance, healthcare, and business. He called for comprehensive AI training and urged boards to adopt and regularly review AI risk policies and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to AI.

On his part, Mr. Peter Kyambadde from KPMG discussed AI’s potential to drive economic transformation, particularly in sectors like health, agriculture, and education. He stressed the need for continuous learning and the responsibility of leaders to adopt AI while maintaining ethical standards.

URSB was represented by board members, including Ms. Annie Katushabe and Ms. Tereza Namwach. Also in attendance was Director of Insolvency, Mr. Robert Mugabe, Director of Business Registration, Mr. Mustapher Ntale, Director of ICT Mr. Arthur Kwesiga, Senior PR & Corporate Affairs Officer, Mr. Denis Nabende, and Senior Legal Officer, Ms. Cynthia Mpoza.
