Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) held a meeting with the Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS) Board of Directors on January 24, 2025. The UPRS delegation, led by Board Chairman Mr. Martin Nkoyoyo, included Directors Allan Ampaire, Raymond Mugerwa, Prince Niki Nyombi, Nambuya Jovia, Susan Kerunen, Ebangit David Otio, and Prof. Patrick Mangeni. The meeting took place at the URSB headquarters in Kololo. Chaired by Mr. Gilbert Agaba, Director of Intellectual Property at URSB, the meeting served as a follow-up to the previous meeting held on January 17, 2025.
Discussions centred on governance matters, royalty collection strategies, and preparations for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for financial year 2024/2025. UPRS Board pledged to take pivotal steps in addressing their governance challenges, focusing on cohesion and strategic growth, and marking a new era for the organisation.
The meeting also discussed UPRS’s proposed collection strategies, including the implementation of digital collection methods, which will be submitted to URSB by February 10, 2025. URSB reaffirmed its commitment to continued engagement with users of creative works to raise awareness about copyright and the importance of compensating for usage.
Finally, the Board presented the draft road map to the AGM over which insight was offered by the URSB team. The URSB team pledged their support to UPRS as preparations are made for the AGM. The UPRS shall be held on March 28, 2025.
