URSB WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY DAY MOOT COURT COMPETITITION

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE FIRST URSB WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY DAY MOOT COURT COMPETITITION 2026.

The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) is organizing a national moot court competition as one of the series of the activities to commemorate the upcoming World Intellectual Property Day 2026 which shall be commemorated under the theme: ‘IP and Sports”. In line with theme for this year’s World IP day, the moot court competition is aimed at deepening understanding of intellectual property issues arising from sports, among law students, nurturing advocacy, research, and legal drafting skills in this critical area of law.

This is therefore to invite all universities accredited to teach law to participate in the competition. Participating teams will be required to prepare and submit written memorials for both the Applicant and the Respondent in accordance with the instructions contained in the attached moot problem and competition guidelines. Upon evaluation of the written submissions, the best four (4) teams will be shortlisted and invited to participate in the oral rounds which will be held on the 23rd and 24th of April 2026 at the Uganda Business Facilitation Centre (UBFC) Kololo starting at 8am.

The competition will provide an excellent platform for law students to engage with contemporary intellectual property and sports issues, interact with practitioners and adjudicators in the field, and showcase their legal acumen.

Please confirm your institution’s participation by email to the Moot Coordinator at denis.birungi@ursb.go.ug or 0775400896.  Should you require any clarification, please do not hesitate to contact the Moot Coordinator.
