SIMPO Integration Boosts Access to Credit and Efficiency in Uganda’s Financial Sector
The Deputy Registrar General, Mr. Alex Anganya, has commended the progress made under the Security Interest in Movable Property Registry System (SIMPO), noting its growing impact on access to credit and business growth in Uganda. He made the remarks during the SIMPO Users Meeting, held on Wednesday, 29th October, at the Uganda Business Facilitation Centre, Kololo.
The annual meeting, now in its second year, brought together lenders, regulators, and system users to review progress following the recent SIMPO upgrade, share user feedback, and explore innovative ways to enhance service delivery.
Since its integration with the Motor Vehicle Registry in December 2023, SIMPO has recorded a significant increase in registrations and reduced turnaround time from four days to just one day, in some cases, only a few hours. This improvement has enabled faster access to credit and improved efficiency for lenders.
Further integration in May 2025 with key national systems including the National Identification System (NIRA), the Online Business Registration System (OBRS), and the Industrial Property Automated System (IPAS) has strengthened data integrity, minimized fraud, and enhanced operational efficiency.
Mr. Anganya noted, “The progress we have achieved through SIMPO demonstrates our commitment to improving access to credit and strengthening Uganda’s financial ecosystem.”
He added, “Our next focus is to build on this momentum by expanding the use of the collateral registry and promoting innovative lending products. Together with our partners, we aim to make movable asset-based financing a cornerstone of inclusive and sustainable economic development in Uganda.”
