URSB ON A POSITIVE GROWTH TRAJECTORY – REGISTRAR GENERAL

The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) is on a positive upward trajectory according to the Registrar General, Ms. Mercy K Kainobwisho. She made the revelation while presenting a paper on URSB’s past and present performance, and future outlook at the Top Management retreat in Entebbe.

The Registrar General noted that URSB had made tremendous progress from the historical paper-based registries to the current online systems which had eased registration and improved Non-Tax revenue collections. She noted key achievements such as the legal reforms, adoption of several international treaties, passing some regulations, increased public awareness of URSB services and hosting staff empowerment activities among others.

Key projects implemented include the WIPO rainwater harvesting project now implemented in schools, the mass business registration, the permanent home at UBFC, deployment of the Online Business Registration System (OBRS), and integration of the motor vehicle system with the SIMPO system among others.

The Registrar General also informed the meeting that URSB had been allocated land in the Namanve Industrial Park for the construction of an archival centre to improve the storage of records. She noted that Management would continue to prioritise staff welfare and expansion of access to URSB services through strategic partnerships and technology.

She noted that there were plans to develop and incorporate an Artificial Intelligence strategy in the registration processes to improve efficiency and standardise operations as well as the establishment of the non-individual register.
