URSB Strengthens Collaboration with ULS-IP Cluster to Enhance Registration Services

The Intellectual Property (IP) Department last week held a constructive stakeholder engagement meeting with members of the Uganda Law Society Intellectual Property (ULS-IP) Cluster, aimed at strengthening collaboration and improving the delivery of intellectual property registration services in Uganda.

The engagement provided an open and interactive platform for members of the ULS-IP Cluster to share their experiences and challenges encountered in the course of handling intellectual property registrations. Key issues discussed included procedural and operational bottlenecks that affect the efficiency and timeliness of the registration process.

In response, the IP Department welcomed the feedback. It reaffirmed its commitment to supporting legal practitioners through clearer guidance, improved communication, and clarification of registration procedures to ensure a more seamless and efficient service experience.

Speaking during the meeting, the Commissioner for Intellectual Property, Mr. Robert Mugabe, emphasized the Uganda Registration Services Bureau’s (URSB) dedication to advancing national development through robust intellectual property services.

“At URSB, we stand for the promotion of innovation, trade, and commerce. Everything we do in the Intellectual Property Department must contribute to that objective,” Mr. Mugabe said.

He further highlighted the department’s readiness to work closely with the ULS-IP Cluster through continuous engagement and open communication, noting that strong collaboration is essential to improving service delivery and strengthening intellectual property protection in the country.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment by both parties to maintain ongoing dialogue, address emerging challenges, and continuously enhance intellectual property registration services for the benefit of innovators, creators, and businesses across Uganda.
