WIPO DG Daren Tang Commits to Boosting Uganda’s Innovation and Youth Empowerment
On Friday, 5th December 2025, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Director General Mr. Daren Tang reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Uganda’s growing innovation ecosystem during a keynote address at the Uganda Business Facilitation Centre (UBFC) in Kololo.
Accompanied by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hon. Norbert Mao and his team, Mr. Tang spoke to a diverse audience of innovators, policymakers, and students, highlighting the critical role of Uganda’s youth in driving national transformation through creativity and problem-solving.
“Uganda’s future lies in harnessing the creativity of its young people,” Tang emphasized. “The world is shifting from tangible to intangible value, and Uganda must position its youth at the center of this transformation.”

He urged learners to cultivate curiosity, resilience, and bold thinking, reminding them that true innovation begins with solving real-world challenges. “Innovation starts with shaping the right mindset from an early age,” he said, encouraging schools and institutions to embed creativity and intellectual property awareness into their programs.
Mr. Tang also acknowledged Uganda’s progress in establishing platforms like the “IP in Schools” initiative and the growing network of Technology and Innovation Support Centres, praising these as crucial steps toward fostering a vibrant innovation culture.
The Director General’s visit and remarks reinforce WIPO’s pledge to partner closely with Uganda, helping to nurture a new generation of innovators who will drive socio-economic growth and position the country as a leader in Africa’s knowledge economy.
