URSB Trains Intellectual Property Examiners to Strengthen Innovation and Brand Protection
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has conducted a specialized training for Intellectual Property (IP) Examiners at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, aimed at strengthening their capacity to deliver efficient, transparent, and high-quality IP services.
The Registrar General was represented by Mr. Robert Mugabe, Commissioner for Intellectual Property, who opened the session and emphasized URSB’s commitment to positioning Uganda as a center of excellence for intellectual property services on the African continent.
Mr. Mugabe emphasized that IP protection is essential for fostering innovation, attracting investment, and supporting Uganda’s economic transformation. He highlighted the need for continuous professional development among examiners to ensure that Uganda’s IP office remains competitive and aligned with international standards.
With over 4,280 trademark applications processed annually, alongside patents, industrial designs, and copyright registrations, URSB continues to safeguard creativity and innovation for both local and international businesses.
The training also focused on enhancing examiners’ technical and practical skills, including assessing applications, managing hearings, and applying modern, technology-driven solutions. Participants were reminded that every decision they make contributes directly to protecting innovators’ rights, promoting business confidence, and strengthening Uganda’s reputation as a trusted IP hub.
By investing in examiner capacity and maintaining integrity, accuracy, and efficiency in IP services, URSB is paving the way for a more innovative, competitive, and business-friendly Uganda.
