Entrepreneurs Urged to Embrace Dispute Resolution for Business Growth

More than 140 entrepreneurs completed the 4th Cohort of the Business Rescue and Aftercare Program (BRAP) during a graduation ceremony held at the Uganda Business Facilitation Centre in Kololo.

The event, graced by Ms. Barbara Kilei, Country Manager for Uganda at the International Development Law Organisation (IDLO), emphasized learning, resilience, and the importance of resolving disputes for sustainable business growth.

Quoting Proverbs 18:15 — “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out” — Ms. Kilei challenged the participants to reflect on their personal and professional growth throughout the program. “Are you the same as you were on day one?” she asked, urging them to continue learning and adapting.

She noted that every dispute is a blockage to resource flow and encouraged entrepreneurs to adopt mediation and arbitration as practical tools for problem-solving. “Effective dispute resolution helps ensure that resources and opportunities move freely, contributing to enterprise success,” she said.

BRAP, implemented under the Department of Insolvency and Receivership, equips business owners with tools to strengthen recovery, improve management, and ensure sustainability. Ms. Kilei expounded that the initiative aligns with the National Development Plan IV (NDP IV) by fostering a stable business environment, enhancing governance, and promoting inclusive growth.

Ms. Kilei commended the participants for representing the 90% of MSMEs that form the heartbeat of Uganda’s economy, turning local dreams into national growth.
