URSB Joins 50,000 Runners in Rotary Cancer Run to Boost Fight Against Cancer
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau joined the fight against cancer by participating in the 14th Rotary Cancer Run on August 31, 2025, at Kololo Independence Grounds, demonstrating its support for community health initiatives. The event, which also took place in more than 100 cities worldwide, drew over 50,000 participants under the theme “Running for a Cause.”
Rotary Uganda’s campaign chair, Samuel Ngabwaki, revealed that proceeds from this year’s run will be directed toward the installation of linear accelerator machines, advanced equipment essential for treating cancer patients. These machines require specially constructed radiation bunkers, making the initiative both urgent and impactful.
Ahead of the run, a medical expo was held on August 30, offering free cancer screening and awareness services to the public. The race itself featured categories ranging from 3km to 21km, ensuring inclusivity for casual joggers, families, and professional athletes.

Uganda continues to tackle alarming cancer statistics, recording nearly 35,000 new cases annually and over 22,000 deaths, mostly due to late detection. Against this backdrop, the Rotary Cancer Run remains a stage of hope, aiming not only to raise funds but also to encourage early detection and life-saving treatment.
URSB expressed pride in standing with thousands of Ugandans and global partners in this cause, noting that collective action is critical in addressing the cancer burden and transforming health outcomes for communities.
